Bullying is a threat that can affect any child

Bullying is an English word that means intimidation. Unfortunately, this word is fashionable because of the countless cases of persecution and attacks that are being detected in schools and colleges, and are leading many students to live truly frightening situations.

Bullying refers to all forms of aggressive attitudes, intentional and repeated, that occur without apparent motivation, adopted by one or more students against another or others. The person exercising the bullying does to impose their power over the other through constant threats, insults, assaults or harassment, and so it under their stranglehold over months and even years. The victim suffers silent in most cases. The intimidating abuse makes you feel pain, anxiety and fear, so much so that in some cases, can lead to devastating consequences such as suicide. 



What is school bullying or harassment?
Harassment and verbal or physical abuse among school is bullying. It is a systematic harassment that occurs repeatedly over time, by one or more stalkers to one or more victims. The definition of Dan Olweus that says "a student becomes a victim of bullying when exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions carried out by one or more other students", is the most accepted.

Experts say that bullying involves three key components:
  1. An imbalance of power between the bully and the victim. This imbalance may be real or only perceived by the victim.
  2. The attack is carried out by a stalker or a group attempting to harm the victim of an intentional way.
  3. There is an aggressive behavior towards the same victim, occurring repeatedly.

Types of bullying
Often several types simultaneously appear:

Physical: direct aggression is based kicking, pushing, hitting with objects. It can also be indirect when damage occurs in the personal property of the victim or theft.

Verbal: it is the most common. Only leaves its mark on the victim. Words have great power and undermine the self-esteem of the victim through humiliation, insults, name-calling, slurs in public, spreading false rumors, phone messages or calls offensive, indecent sexual language ...

Psychological: Performed by threats to cause fear, to achieve some object or money, or simply to force the victim to do things that does not want to do... 



Social: Are the exclusion and the progressive isolation of the victim. In practice, stalkers prevent the victim participate, both ignoring their presence and not counting on him / her normal activities with friends or classmates.

The data are repeated around the world, bullying affects children of all social conditions, is present in public and private schools in large cities and in smaller towns.
